While some good old laundry detergent and bleach can work wonders for getting out stains, there are tons of at home remedies you can use to get your clothes squeaky clean. Here are our favorite laundry hacks that you never knew you needed.
1. Use hydrogen peroxide to get out grass stains
Grass stains can be tricky to remove from clothing, especially once they’ve set in. To remove grass stains, mix 2 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide and 1 tbsp of dish soap and use some elbow grease to treat the stain.
2. Use vinegar to naturally soften clothe
Distilled white vinegar is a great hypoallergenic alternative to commercial fabric softeners. Adding a half cup of vinegar to the final rinse cycle will leave your clothes softer for longer and won’t leave any harsh residues.
3. Use baking soda to whiten your whites
Unlike traditional bleach, baking soda does not contain any harmful chemicals, but will still remove odors and brighten your whites. Just toss in a cup of baking soda, sit back and let it work its magic.
4. Use a towel to dry your clothes faster
If you’re in a pinch and need your clothes to drive faster, a fluffy towel will do the trick. Throw a medium sized towel in the dryer with your clothes and it will help absorb water.
5. Use conditioner to fix shrunken clothing
There’s nothing worse than accidentally shrinking your favorite sweater that used to fit perfectly. Luckily, you may be able to reverse the damage. Soak your shrunken piece of clothing in lukewarm water with some hair conditioner for about 15 minutes then hand-wash and hang to dry.
